I wish I could contribute, but all I can offer is my moral support.
Had this come about 3 months ago, I would have not parted with my old iBook G3-500. Sure, it could run OS X, but so slowly it was a pain. For sitting on the couch and surfing to look up something on IMDB or add something to my wishlist on Amazon, the iBook was just fine.
I still have a Molar Mac, Beige Desktop and a B/W G3 still hanging around.

Thank goodness this wasn't around a year ago. This would have been perfect for my boss. The only reason we were able to convince him to let me upgrade his computer, OS and Quickbooks version from TEN YEARS AGO was that he was not able to do much of anything on the web anymore.

As a current Mac OS 9 user, I often have to reboot into the Mac OS X partition on my iMac G3 just to access certain web pages anymore. It is really slow. The biggest dilemma, I'm afraid, will be optimizing Javascript and rebuilding a current version of Flash that will function in Mac OS 9.

A Macintosh running OS 9? You've got to be kidding! I do, however, keep a Tiger partition on my laptop for the express purpose of running Adobe Type Manager in Classic mode. But really... Why would anyone want to waste time making anything for customers so backward that they're still running OS 9???

OS 9 ? Come ON people, get a clue ! Sure, you could be part of a vehemently religious user-group angry at the world that it's difficult to get new hardware that will run Windows 3.x let alone repair your moldy old box, but OS 9 ?
Just, ugh... At this point (not many years ago when OS X was brand new), at this point, just, ugh.

While I can't speak for the people still interested in developing for OS 9, I'm sure this will be a boon to those who, for one reason or another, still use the venerable old OS. And it's pompous in the extreme to pass judgement on people you don't even know for using it. Get a clue.
