I have a 500 mhz. imac running OS 9.1 with
196 mb. ram. I use Optimus Nova 71 headphones when playing games and music. I have an occasional problem with sound suddenly coming through the external speakers while using the headphones. Also, the background music on some of the games is very low, and I have the headphones and Mac sound turned all the way up. I can't figure out how to increase the background sound. This bachground sound is fine on my old 333 mhz. imac. Any help will be greatly appriciated!

headphone sound troubles...

I just ripped my iMac DV apart (it's back together thank you) and looked at the headphone jack... It's a little circuit board with a bunch of surface mount components on it and a whole bunch of solder traces... which in my case are wiggling relative to the board. This means , I'm sure that one of the traces has broken somewhere which sounds hard to fix. I'll bet yours just is wiggly somewhere else. My headphone jack works but I can't get sound anymore.
If I could figure out how to get the part out of there it would be a fairly easy fix.
I don't see any real good way to do much, I think trying to bend contacts inside the housing is pretty impossible.
