I love Birdfeed as well. Though it's still not my most used, but I do agree that the simplicity of it is great. Still waiting for stuff like audio/video support though, every iphone twitter client needs this and only a few have it so far.
Reportage looked interesting, but I never got around to buying it because I couldn't really see the point of it. I agree with you - there aren't any updates in my timeline that I would say are 'crucial', and if I want to see updates I'd rather just see everyone's I follow.
