Hello Macworld,
Let me just say, please don't take this as a complete diss or anything, I'm just offering my point of view on a couple of changes I think you guys should take into account.
Let me also start by saying that I love reading your articles. I read all of the news about the tech world everyday just like a good customer, and until recently I had no need to create an account. But then, when I did... is when I noticed a huge room for improvement. Here's what happened:
When I first signed up, like an idiot, I thought it would be nice to have my Username be my full name, and like a bigger idiot, I put a space in it. Surprisingly it worked, so I figured if spaces were a problem you wouldn't have allowed me use one. But then I ran into problems, for one, my username appeard as "Name+LastName" so I figured something was slightly off. And then I realized, I couldn't reply to topics... and then I tried to log onto the forums to post a bug thread, but I found the forums wouldn't even recognize my account! So I was getting very frustrated.
Basically, I'm just trying to show that there is a small hole... believe me most people won't try to put a space in their names, but for those who do this could be a hassle. I admit it was a dumb idea to begin with, but just thought you might want to fix it.
Also, in the registration screens, you make the point of adding "optional subcriptions" to all of the subcription options, but then I am FORCED to choose one to be able to have an account... seems like an unwise position in terms of gaining more members to me. Might want to reconsider that.
Anyways... can someone just help me out by changing my account's username? (Currently Ian+Taylor to Stormink).
Thanks for your time.

Just create a new account with the user name you want.
And to deal with email notifications, click on Your Stuff near the top of the page, choose Profile, and in the resulting window click on Edit Preferences. Your email preferences will be in there. Feel free to change them.

Changing the settings for email notifications on the Preferences page will handle new threads you create and new posts to other threads, but I believe you will still received notifications from the threads you already posted to. To kill those (if you want), under the Your Stuff menu should be an Email Notificaitons menu item...this will allow you to kill any notifications for threads that you currently have in place.
