Trying to connect my MAC to my TV with an S Cord!!!

Hi I went to best buy today and bought a Dynex Mini DVI output and a Dynex S Video Cable. I connected the DVI to the Mac and the S-cable to the DVI and then to my TV and ithe screen is blakc with fusszy lines appearing? Can anyone help?

Are you on the right input channel of your TV?
What are the specs of your mac?

I have a black mac OS X, version 10.5.5

You have a black macbook?
So did you check the inputs on your tv?

All I have done is plug in the DVI covter to the MAc boon, then the S cord into the DVI and the TV.

So you haven't fiddled around with the inputs on your TV?

All I have done is gone to different AV channels.

I'd try going to System Preferences, then 'displays' and clicking 'Detect Displays'
