No kidding. When researching this article I kept going back to Audialhub thinking "This must be floating around the Web somewhere, what's the harm in.... naw, wouldn't be right." Techspansion is sorely missed.

I use MAX to convert .flac files to .alac
It's fast and easy, added automatically to iTunes too

A more pedestrian but easy method is to use Toast to burn a CD with the FLAC files. It may also burn the others.) Then just mount the CD, retrieve the tag info, and have iTunes import it at one's preferred bit rate.

If you use Toast you don't have to burn a CD. You can just use its Convert feature to export the files in an iTunes-compatible format.

Darn, I was hoping Fluke is a direct solution. I'll stick with using XLD to convert FLAC to Apple Lossless (and AL to AAC for my car stereo, as it's much faster than doing so in iTunes)

i have found fluke to be fine, i got dragged the files onto fluke, and it shoved them into itunes, i then converted them to itunes lossless to put them onto my ipod.

bigbadvoo-
Yup. XLD ( http://tmkk.hp.infos...ld/index_e.html ) works great. Ogg Vorbis, FLAC files converted quickly and free!
I too miss AudialHub but, XLD does it all for me. Works like a charm and is fast. To say it is as good as AudialHub is a compliment too.

Yes, I see that is the easiest conversion method, so why not mention it in the article?

Whenever possible I try to provide free or cheap solutions rather than those that cost upwards of $80.

I have found the conversion through Toast for flac files is not always reliable. Once you have the Xiph component installed, you should download a copy of setoggs. All you have to do is drop the flac and ogg files on the setoggs icon, and you can then just drop them into iTunes without any need to change the extension. The files will then play in iTunes.
