10 seconds after reading your article, I logged on to the App Store thru my iPhone to get this, as it sounded fun. When I tried to download it, I got the message to the effect 'The application is being altered, please try again". So I tried 5 minutes later -- only to find that the price had been bumped up to $2.99. Seems InMotion got greedy after the PR Macworld gave them. I didn't buy it. And won't, because of this tactic.

Indeed, I went to the store and the first poster is right: it's $2.99 now.

Same experience as plazamac - price jacked up even thought their own website still shows it as $.99. Same reaction as plazamac - will pass due to the tactic.

In fairness to the developer, it's become an increasing frequent practice on the App Store to offer apps at an introductory price. What I suspect happened here is that we published the review around the same time that the price was set to change -- that this was an instant of unfortunate timing, in other words. (Given the delays developers have in getting updates approved and posted on the App Store, I'd find it unlikely that someone could time price increases to our reviews.)

That said, as a guy who edits and posts a lot of these reviews on Macworld, iPhone app price fluctuations are robbing me of my joie de vivre.

App price changes by themselves do not have to go through any review process, and they're fairly instantaneous.

Still, you're only talking about $3 for an original and polished game. Compare that to $8 for sudoku on Verizon....

and the app store page for the Lite version is still advertising the full verision as being on sale for 67% off. Guess they need to get their story straight.

A price bump due to it getting more attention is a shame. That price point could have been what brought such attention in the first place and may never have landed an article spot if it was overpriced to begin with.
That said, I have had it for a few weeks and it is pretty fun, but it really needs to tone down the main campaign. That $100,000 and 4 HOURS of time is just too much to sink. Some smaller campaigns ($50K in 2hrs maybe?) might help. The ability to save multiple games would also be a huge plus.

Howdy folks,
Bradley here from InMotion.

I can see how you'd think we are being greedy by bumping the price to $2.99 after the review, but honestly, we didn't even know about the review on MacWorld till early this morning.

The end of the sale was scheduled completely independant of any review or press. We are sorry that it coincided with something that appears to tarnish people's opinion of us. That was in no way our intention.

Sincerely,

Bradley W. Lewis
