I'm surprised that there is no mention of the Zi8 which launches next week. 1080P, image stabilization - looks like it's going to be a great cam (at least for $179 MSRP).

I think this line of product will be dead pretty soon. The point and shoot cameras (and iPhones) are making huge inroads in to the portable video market while these guys seem to be making low quality one-trick ponies. The quality you get from some of the better point and shoot cameras is amazing, and they have the still camera to go with it. With these, you still need a still camera

I have two of these and have no disagreements with the review except that I'm not disappointed with what I'm seeing. It is a very capable camera for a grandparent to shoot video his grandchildren at the playground, or for his grandchildren to shoot video of his grandparents. I think teenagers will love this camera for capturing video of the friends skateboarding tricks at 60 fps. It's fun to use to make videos of a few seconds or a couple minutes. I'm giving one of the cameras to my 6-year-old grandson because he thinks its a blast and had no trouble learning how to use it. The size and weather-protected case make it durable enough to hand over to a child with supervision. I want the Zi8 with its stabilization feature.

This review was written before the Zi8 was announced. We'll have a review of the Zi8 next week. Anyone considering the purchase of the Zi8 should very definitely wait for the review before purchasing.

The Zi8 is already out and has several customer reviews at Amazon.com. Doesn't seem cracked up to what it should be and has a high pitched whine audible from the internal mic.

Without giving away the plot, my review agrees with that assessment.

My mom (74 years old) just bought one of these from QVC and I think she'll be pleased, especially for a whole kit that, after rebate, will run just under $100 with free shipping. She's more interested in getting images of products while she's out shopping but she'll probably record video of her friends and family from time to time.

Oh, and to the web developers who put these new "enhancements" into place so we don't see just the quote, but the code also in the final post on the web site, great job you're doing there. Your bosses should be pleased, especially if they rushed you to do it. :-D
