Of course, if you want to create prettier labels with something other than addresses from your Address Book or want more flexibility, you might want to check out Label Printer Pro http://www.payplaysoftware.com.

Chronos Labels is even more fully-featured.

What it can do and Address Book (except via a Dashboard widget) can't is print POSTNET Barcodes.

What if you are trying to print a label from database fields that is other than an address label. iWork and Bento still fail to meet this need. We still use Appleworks databases for just that reason.

Be sure to note that sometimes Address book prints "and spouse" if both hubby and wiffs have different email addresses.

That is the exact reason I still use a little program called pearLabelizer. It hasn't been updated in 3 years, but it still worked great last year at Christmas time with Leopard, so I'm hoping it will work again this year with Snow Leopard. It allows you to create a custom layout of the database fields you want on the label. I actually use the "Nickname" column for the name I want on the label so I can address it to "Mr. & Mrs. John Smith" instead of just the "John Smith" that would be pulled from the first and last name fields. Reply back if you find that it still works as I'll need to find another option when that eventually stops working!

What about return labels? The only way I could find is to put your name in address book (group) the same amount as labels on each sheet, than print.

I agree. AppleWorks 6 still can be used with OS-X and there's no reason not to use it for tasks like this. It has saved my having to redo/recreate hundreds of files that were made over the years with it, including several databases with label layouts. It was such an easy and effective program, I really wonder why it's development was dropped. For those interested, Appleworks 6 for OS-X can still be found on eBay.

That's also what I discovered when I briefly investigated Bento. The only use I would have for a product like Bento is to create name tags for an event as well as address labels. I continue to use Excel and Word.

And, pearlLabelizer solves the return labels problem too!

Simpler solution: Give $10 to any Save the (insert cuddly mammal here) organization. You'll have lovely return labels coming out your ears within a matter of weeks.

An application called "Labels & Addresses" from BeLight software is another one to check out if you have more complex label printing needs. I've been using this program for a while now and have been happy with the results.

I want to print 3"x 5" cards for an address box. This seems like something you should be able to do with address book. Haven't found it.
As I write this I am wondering what could be done with mail merge in Pages.

I've used Easy Envelopes for years. Prints right on the envelope so no label needed. Also prints return addresses, barcodes and more. And it's free.
