Trying to upgrade from 10.5.8 on iMac (year old). 2GB memory; 107GB disk space available.
10.6 disk starts ok; after about 10 minutes (progress bar advances to under the "a" in "Mac OS X" ) the machine reboots.
Reboot ejects the disk.
After login, insert disk and the process begins from the beginning. Repeat ad noseum.
Have turned off PGP and weatherbug applications which used to load at start up.
Looked on apple support, general "google" query and here. Not much help. Mostly recommend wipe the HD and fresh install.
Have back up on Time Machine but haven't ever had to restore. Not wild about wipe and load.
Also have a firewire connected HD for video clips. Seeing several posts on FW problems.
Should I save the aggravation and just write off the $30?

SL install failure gets 10 minutes in, reboots and repeats from beginning (repeat)

PGP Full Disk Encryption needs to be 100% disabled before you attempt an upgrade. Have you decrypted your drive and fully uninstalled PGP?

After reading the posts about crashes and firewire problems, I've decided to write-off the $30 and wait a couple years til this unit fizzles out.
Thanks for the help.
Thanks for the help.
Every single change to anything causes a certain number of people to have problems. Remember, the ones who don't have issues don't generally go to the trouble of posting that fact to the world. Unless there is some very specific unresolved issue that is present in current versions of 10.6 that worries you, it seems silly to put off upgrading seeing as you already bought the product. I have seen no indication that 10.6 is any more or less troublesome than any other release of OS X.
