It looks even easier than the older ones I have done.
Thanks a lot Dan! (again)

Why no ESD safety measures? (I cringe at some of these DIY tips when some of the most important aspects are amiss.)

As I noted at the beginning of the video, I was wearing an anti-static wrist band; you can see the black cable coming off my left hand.

Ater upgrading the RAM of my Power PC 8500 this seems like a walk in the park. You had to literally take the entier computer appart.

the 8100/8500/9500 were one of the hardest towers to upgrade the ram in... there was a trick though, where you could just partially open it up, and "lean" the logicboard out just enough to install the ram, saving over 30 minutes ;)

the later towers from apple have always been easy to do such upgrades in. The mini G4 was actually easier to upgrade ram in, just had to take the top case off, then the ram was on one side, with the intel models, you have to take the optical/hard drive bracket off to get to the logicboard.

my interest would actually be to upgrade the optical drive with a Bluray burner for when Apple gets around to actually supporting them in software. Anything I'd need to look out for/pay close attention to?

Seriously? Do you buy into the ESD bit? I have been doing maintenance on multil-million dollar sensor systems for the military for about 15 years now, and sometimes when it is a slow day, we will TRY to break something via ESD. Guess what? In 15 years, we have never been able to do it. It's a scam for 3M to make money on it's ESD kits. Period. Granted, maybe the results would be different if a chip didn't have the silicon package on it, but...

It is pretty easy after watching the iFixit video a few times. Here's my go at upgrading the WiFi card in my 2007 mini:

Good to realize the 2009 Mac Minis now fully support up to 8GB (!) RAM, after Apple recently issued a EFI update. So if you're going to update, consider doing the max. There's more info available on OWC Larry's webpage....

This looks a little more tricky and less fun than I expected, but Macs are quite worth the extra tedious efforts involved.

You'll also need to open it up routinely to blow out dust I suspect. That's the scary thought about the mini - dust can collect heavily in a mini, can't it?

Hello, I am new to the Mac and I love it. I have just purchased a used Mac mini. Can I update my 2005 MAC mini so that it could work like a newer Mac mini ? I find that I can not do many things since it seems slow and or outdated.
If so, what parts do you recommend I replace, i.e. drives, RAM etc... and how can I find these parts cheap ?
Thank you for any response,
Frank.
