I just moved and re-plugged everything, and it seems like my old settings don't work anymore...

I have an Apple LaserWriter Select 360, LocalTalk cable plugged into an AsantTalk ethernet adaptor, and an RJ45 from the Asant adaptor to the Ethernet port on the G4.

AppleTalk is set to connect via Ethernet.

I always used these settings, and never had any trouble. Now, nothing works... I'm going crazy!!!!

I have a G4 on system 9.2.2.

Any help???????????

Thanks.

Try restarting the G4 AFTER you have plugged in the Ethernet cable.

I see from your posting in the Apple Discussion forums you already tried this and it did not work...

Make sure your printer, AsanteTalk, and Mac are all connected together properly and that all three devices are fully powered up. Make sure Appletalk is enabled in the Appletalk control panel. Then, pull the power cord from the AsanteTalk. Wait a moment. Then, plug the power cord back in to the AsanteTalk. Wait 15 seconds. Then try looking for the the printer again in the Chooser - it will likely reappear.

Did this too... not working...

My problem started after I changed my modem connection. I was on cable before. When I moved, I had to change for a DSL line. The installer put some new extensions in the Extensions folder and changed all my TCP/IP settings.

Since then, I can't see the printer in the chooser.

I disconnected the modem, put the exact same settings I had before installing it, restarted the computer with only the 9.2.2 extensions... not working either.

I really am mystified by all this...

My HP Laser Jet 4MP (the best they ever made then or now) is hard to give up. BUT, I also have ongoing problems with it disappearing from the chooser. LaserWriter8 is set as default icon, but when I click on that nothing comes up in the right hand box. I have had 3 different "experts" reset the connection...works for a while (a few weeks to a few months) then bingo--gone again! I'm in the process of selecting a HP 1200 printer, since it's the only one that lets feed in single sheets/envelopes, BUT, it is way larger than my old HP (taking up desk space instead of neatly stowed below the desk).
I've also tried the two suggestions listed without success (the "experts" confess to not really knowing exactly what they did that worked, since they tried so many combinations of pulling plugs, deleting files, reinstalling files, etc.

AND, I've love to know if anyone has had any permanent success or suggestions.

I have had a similar problem with my Eposon 740. It was printing one day and the next every app told me I couldn't print.
The USB connection would not appear in the chooser. I selected the printer's icon but it didn't stay selected. images/icons/mad.gif

turn EVERYTHING off first.
turn on the adapter (plug it in)
turn on the printer
turn on the computer.

Those adapters tend to be very picky with the order in which things are powered up
