I'm not sure I understand. You have to have a computer tethered to the camera. The computer - at least for canon - has remote software on it to control the camera. Ok- so far I'm good. Now, instead of using the computer to control the camera you pair the phone with the computer that's tethered to the camera, and then shoot. Why? Oh Why did she eat the fly?

probert, Sometimes it is nice to move around a little more freely - to adjust lighting in the studio, work with your subject for a portrait, etc - than being physically tethered to the computer that is tethered your camera allows. Or maybe you've got a sports shoot and you tuck the camera and a laptop in a location that doesn't allow you got control it. This app lets you have (a little) more control than remote firing with PocketWizards, etc.

This app, if it works as advertised, eliminates most of the need for Nikon's absurdly priced ($180) Camera Control Pro app, which I use to review images at 1:1 pixel resolution to verify focus when doing copy work. Tripping the shutter without touching the camera and downloading images directly to the computer are nice benefits as well. I wish it worked with older Nikon DSLRs like the D70, as Camera Control Pro does, but I assume there's a technical limitation there.

I've tried the DSLR remote, and think it's a magnificent tool to make you more agile around your "studio". In my case the "studio" is my kitchen, and thou it is small, i cannot reach from my setup, and over to the computer. The image shown at the links adress, I made with only a flashlight as light source, and I would not have been able to make that shot without DSLR-remote or similar app.
