The MBP-100 does seem to be the steal. For $299 you get the external battery pack AND the car charger. I'm sure they teamed up with a supplier to get a price cut on the power adapters from Apple, but still. I'd assume they only supply one cable with the MagSafe tip in that package deal. In a hypothetical world, that means you're only paying $220 for a MBP-100 AND the car charger. If I really had the need for it, I'd seriously consider buying one.

"On the other hand, one feature I’d like to see is the capability to charge the HyperMac batteries via USB" Yeah this is not going to happen as if you do the math USB would take about 15 hours to charge the small battery. It can't carry the juice needed so its not a practical feature.

Frank, I just had some friends staying with me and when they arrived they went for the power point. There were cords, AC chargers everywhere. Using something like this would have lightened there load. Cameras, phones, computers. I might have missed it but do they work with dual V. 240V.

Sorry Dan, I didn't read who wrote the article correctly.

Good article Dan. Very helpful and I certainly see the benefit in having one of these.
PeterG I checked both the default and European company websites and in both places they state technical specs as requiring input voltage of 100-240 VAC so that seems quite versatile.

CanadianInFrance, thanks for checking. That is good news. I really don't buy anything I might use overseas (I trip to Australia a lot) unless it is "versatile" as you said. (100-240V)
Even my shaver.

I'm curious, are their restrictions on taking these on aircraft? Thought I read where some battery packs had ignited.
