I was at this talk today, and despite hype, there wasn't any new information. They did not have an iPad to preview, they had 5-6 cardboard mock-ups.
We got to hear from people who had actually touched an iPad, and then were treated to their opinions about them.

Aside from seeing the people and the pundits (please forgive me) it was a waste of time that did not live up to the to expectations.

Sorry, but I think your expectations are your own responsibility. The "pundits" were not accountable for the lack of any new details about the iPad. Apple has tightly controlled the flow of information about it, as they always do for new products. Absent any new data on the subject, all the panel could do is discuss what they think the iPad means, or will mean to the public and the industry. I'm sure everyone there, including the panel members, had questions for which there simply are no answers yet available. All those limitations notwithstanding, it would have been entirely irresponsible for the Expo planners to ignore the iPad and to fail to have a presentation of some kind on the subject.

First off, you obviously didn't listen to the podcast, because it's not the iPad event, it's a Macworld editorial roundup of the week at the show.

Second, I think your problems are with your expectations. We never said we had an iPad. I said several times in several places that we did NOT have an iPad. I'm not quite sure what you were expecting, but we did all we could -- which is talk about the iPad. Outside of Apple, very few people have actually used the thing. The people at Apple aren't talking. It was either that or just pretend the iPad didn't exist. Given the size of the crowd at the event, interest was high. We did everything we possibly could.

A big tip of the hat to MW's "brain trust" for another job well done. I very much enjoyed the coverage along with the commentary.

And from the sound of things, the Expo passed the No 800 lb Gorilla Test with flying colors. Cool!
