I've read a couple of months back (if memory serves me right) about an app reviewed on macworld regarding monitoring of the user's application usage, keys typed, time used idle etc...
The purpose of the app could come in handy big time for my small company to make sure my employees do their job properly.
What app can you recommend (if any exist).
PS: I don't need the app to make too many "whistles and noises" as i don't want any disruption on my macs.
Thanks,
Andrei

can't remember the name of the keylogger you are looking for...
but i do ask the question..
if you can't trust the employees to do their job.. why hire them?
and are you really going to waste your valuable time in perusing the logs of all your employees just to jump on them for what they do?
if an employee gets his/her work all done to standards and they stop off at Facebook or some such, what's the penalty?
and is that penalty equal across the board?
most firms just have an internet policy that is written by the company and signed by the employee stating what is allowed and not allowed ( warcraft, pr0n etc.)
much easier than having paranoid employees concerned about what key they hit or a mouse over re-direct.
and if you can't figure out who's not getting the work done in a timely fashion, i would suggest some additional management skill up on your part.
no offense and it's your company, but as someone who has had internet access in every position from entry level to management, i wouldn't work 2 seconds for you with that in effect.

Well thanks for nothing, but since you asked i said "to make sure my employees do their job properly." This doesn't necessarily imply i checking on them or jumping on them, and it's NOT a matter of trust.
Some of them even asked me for such an app as they would also be interested in the statistics (eg. how much time they are wasting in pages, and how much time for a certain project, checking mails, etc). They came to me with this and i remembered that such an app existed, that could create reports much like ARD but more detailed.
Anyway thanks again for the management lecturing and for the 'help' and i'm sure that with this attitude you wouldn't work/advance in any position in any company.

Hmm thanks but not quite what i was looking for. I need something more statistical inclined, that can generate statistical usage, maybe even auto graphical plotting for such statistics, like time spent on file example.pages, example.numbers, mail.app etc...
Guess it's wishful thinking... but now i hope you understand that i don't necessarily need "spyware" to SPY on my own employees, i just need something that can feed some info to allow better time allocation for different jobs.

the TimeKeeper type apps all require the user to start/end as they perform different duties so as to bill to the appropriate entity.
fortune in your search.

Hey your idea with time keeper apps made me think to search for this on the web and came along with this app:

DutyWatch can also be considered a keylogger app but this doesn't interest me. What interests me is the application usage timers and graphs.

As you've "evolved" the explanation of what you're specifically wanting to do, it occurred to me that what you really want is a "punch clock" that can do create entries on what employees are doing without them having to punch out-change project-punch in manually. Which isn't a bad idea at all.
It looks like you've found what you were looking for but I just wanted to say thanks for clarifying your goal. Words like "keyloggers" are very loaded terms on Mac forums which we naturally view with a lot of distrust. What you're actually wanting to do, on the other hand, makes a lot more sense.

Happy everyone got the idea, and sorry i wasn't more clear from the get go, but that doesn't mean i was talking about spying etc...
Anyway i'm kind of reluctant to install that software since it too has true key-logging abilities. I'm kind of afraid of such apps, and probably would have to also install little snitch to see if it in any way has even a small attempt to broadcast info outside...
What do you think? Are those apps safe or what?

What you want maybe some kind of spy software named MAC keylogger, I have heard it before, http://www.google.co...lient=firefox-a
See, google is powerful.

Uh. Aside from resurrecting a 2-year-old thread the broad suggestion you've offered (use Google) was already given and the narrow one (a specific program) is contrary to what was being asked for. The message right above yours indicated that the OP doesn't want to spy on the users or log the actual keystrokes being entered.
