I have been using MJ for about 2 years and use it much as stated above and as a free form database for text and links with photos also. MJ SOHO notes and their regular pricey upgrades.
My wife, who is frugal when it comes to computer programs, bought it two months ago and is thrilled with it.

No more "Journler" development. Despite that and after testing these out these good applications...I will continue to use the aging "Journler" program.
As some point I guess a shift may occur. regards.

I switched to Evernote for the unique and, I learned, indispensable features it offers, such as text-recognition within images and especially its seamless syncing between the desktop application, web, and portable devices, but--sniff--god how I miss MacJournal's pure text-editing capabilities and journal-level (instead of selection-level) encryption. Here's looking at you, MacJournal. We'll always have Paris.

I agree I have been a faithful user of Journler since mac journal turned into a paid app. I even have a copy of the current version that came with one of the machiest bundles. But I really don't use it for anything. Journler is just better at everything.

I used to use MacJournal but switched to viJournal. It's aesthetic is a little more appealing to me and, more importantly for my needs, it has a companion iPhone app already, allowing me to sync journal entries between the too and also keep on with my journal when on the road.

Novelists and journalists would be much better served by Schrivener than MacJournal. In my opinion, Schrivener is one of the best designed and well thought-out Mac programs ever. MacJournal is more suited to writing diaries and blogs.

I have to echo dudemac and tmolnar. I used MacJournal a long time ago when Dan Schimpf was developing it, but then found Journler and switched because it was just so good. Even though Journler hasn't been actively developed for quite a long time now, it's still way better than the most recent version of MacJournal (5.2, which I just downloaded). I guess the Journler developer is uncommonly talented, but I have to wonder how healthy it can be to be taken over by Mariner Software.
