Well, I must say that I’m utterly disappointed by Steam for Mac—on several fronts.

First, for whatever reason not only does the Steam software have to be installed on a drive with a case-insensitive file system, but the user account folder has to be there too. This is simply madness and most definitely a no-go for a software developer.
Luckily, there is a workaround involving putting the necessary Steam-specific folders on a separate drive with a case-insensitive file system, going to the Terminal and creating symlinks into your account folder. This seems to work for Steam to run.

So I got Steam working and went to fetch Portal, which is supposed to be the big promotional game for Steam, being free until May 24 and all.
Unfortunately, however, all I got was a message telling me that “The Steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request. Please try again in a few minutes.”
I did try and try and try… but to no avail.

For me personally, this is a fail for Steam and I’ll probably stay away from it until the initial glitches have been gotten out of the system.
