HELP!

for some reason my iphone recently decided to stop taking a charge and also is no longer recognized in itunes. when plugged in the charging icon never appears. i've tried different usb cords and different computers, wall sockets, etc. i've searched threads all over the internet and nobody seems to have this exact problem. everything i read says the user either cannot get itunes to see the phone or cannot get a charge from the wall socket but never both problems at once. everything else on the phone seems to work just fine. if anybody has suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. my phone is second generation and i have a mac. both itunes and the iphone are running the latest versions of the software. oh, and i've tried hard restarts, powering on and off (also while connected to the computer), and restoring (which i obviously can't do because the phone doesn't appear in itunes).

Sounds like you have done the necessary troubleshooting -- trying different cords, outlets, computers -- which would lead to the conclusion the USB port on the phone is bad. You may try blowing some canned air in there to see if that clears up any gunk that may be messing up the contacts but there is a chance that there is a failure in the USB connector or further along the line in the phone. Not much you can do but take it in for checking by the Apple Store.
