I was going to give my old iPhone to my wife, but when she saw the two screens side-by-side, she said "I want that one" pointing at the iPhone 4.

And regarding data usage ... I grandfathered in my unlimited data plan even though I was using an average of 100-150MB per month with my old iPhone.

But I've already used 80MB cellular data since Thursday. I don't know how much of that is just playing with a new toy (I do go online more when I'm out - perhaps sub-conscientiously I'm trying to get my money's worth).

So I'm on track to use 600+MB this month. And that's with being in WiFi range most of the past few days and without eg. the upcoming Netflix app.

Looks like a winner. However, that antenna issue is really big. Requiring a Bumper ($30 extra) or holding the phone differently is unreasonable, and frankly I expect a lot more from Apple products. If they can fix this issue with a software update, then it will be soon forgotten. If not, it's a terrible quality control issue. Even if only 10% of people have a problem, thats almost 170,000 people with a phone right now that will loose signal because of how they hold it. No excuse for that. I am a huge Apple honk, and I by no means want to pile on before the full extent or reasons behind the problem are fully exposed.

I purchased a 27" iMac a few months ago and it has had some issues as well. Screen flicker (since fixed), yellow tint on screen (very slight, but it's there). I really expect more, if not perfection, from Apple. That may be asking too much, but for the premium I pay, I do expect a lot. And they have always delivered in the past.

"The new iPhone is much thinner than its predecessors."

It is a bit thinner, but not MUCH thinner.

I think that first picture of the iPhone 4 is really ugly and show little. There must be a better shot.

Thanks for the in-depth review. As soon as I can get a non-AT&T iPhone, I'm sold!

Am one of Apple's international customers and i worry about the antenna issue. Am definitely upgrading to the iPhone 4 but until the antenna issue is eradicated because well, Apple has gotten me used to expecting products that work 100%. This however does not diminish my 100% trust in Apple's products.

I'd say 24% thinner qualifies for allot thinner.

Enjoyed the review. I agree the reception issue is a big one. One would think after months of field testing they would have seen this coming... makes me think it may be a software issue.

Hope so...

Soo you guys rated the 3GS higher than the 4. I understand that if you tested the 3GS now it wouldnt get 4.5/5 but still also you rated EVO and Moto X higher as well..I find that strange especially on MACWORLD

" the 3GS is still quite a fast device and takes full advantage of iOS 4.0."

Hmmm, I would seriously consider going back to IOS 3. Suddenly my 3GS doesn't feel as snappy as it was before. I'm also so used to switching Apps via the Home Screen that I find multitasking kinda redundant. Since IOS 3 was very fast on a 3GS I reckon it's as fast as using multitasking on IOS 4. I would rephrase the above to "the 3GS is less fast when it takes full advantage of IOS 4.0"

So the Droid X, Evo 4G and the iPhone 3Gs all score 4.5 mice, and the new and improved iPhone 4 scores 4 mice? You wrote: "The iPhone 4 is, in many ways, the best iPhone Apple has ever made." What gives with the fifth mouse?

As to the antenna - On my drive to and from work, there are three strips of road where my 3GS would always lose sound, usually to the point of dropping the call. Today n that same ride, two of the sections had no noticeable change in call quality, and the third section had choppy sound, but did not lose the call (that spot was previously 100% call drop).

Yes I am using a case, but when I have experimented with holding it barehanded, I have not been able to create the reported signal loss, no mater what gyrations I attempt. in any event, I have always used a phone case.

For me personally, the iPhone 4 has significantly better cell call reception than the 3GS.

Wonder why the iPad is still faster than the iPhone 4 if the A4 in it has 2x the RAM @ 512Mb? iOS versions?
