Equivalent to Irfanview on Mac Photo viewing/editing software

one of the things that I miss on Mac is an equivalent to Irfanview, a great (free) piece of Windows software that is a very fast viewer of practically any photo format, which is also able to do some editing including resizing & renaming in batch mode.
Any suggestions? I don't mind paying.
Thanks, Dave

I can see that you would, but it seems rather a heavyweight tool for some fast viewing of pictures & I have Aperture.

I will have another look at Preview in case I have missed something.
I should say that the key things I am looking for are
1) viewing pictures in a folder serially, AFAIK Preview requires you to close the open window, select the next pic, etc. I know that Apple would probably tell me to use Coverflow, and I do.
2) Batch format conversion and resizing.

I'm afraid I've never checked out ACDSee Pro (sorry, Chas) so I don't have a proper basis for comparison... but I believe GraphicConverter (shareware) covers both of those functions pretty decently, and it opens just about every image format I've ever thrown at it. It's a very mature product which has been around since well before Mac OS X came on the scene, and it appears that it is still being maintained, as the site makes mention of Snow Leopard compatibility.

Actually... come to think of it, Preview can do one better then what you've described here: If you lasso a bunch of images in a folder and open them as a group instead of individually, Preview will pull up a single window with a thumbnail sidebar, and you can navigate up and down that list of images with the arrow keys.

Thanks Zarmanto, Graphics Converter looks a bit more like it and I like your tip about Preview.

and you can automate with preview.

I tried it out this evening, very nice too. Still not as good as Irfanview but a step closer.

Preview is nowhere close to the serious ease-of-use and awesomeness of Irfanview. In fact, compared to Irfanview I would say preview is a retarded software....image viewwing apps are most of all about user experience and the user experience Irfanview offers . . . I have never seen in any other image viewer yet.
The fact that you can do most things in irfanview with a single (and intuitive) key press . . . In fact, just being able to navigate through images with the arrow keys and close an image with esc key itself is enough to rank it way higher than preview in the user-experience scale.
I think it should not even be considered an alternative to irfanview. Irfanview is one of the main reasons, btw, i don't use a mac in spite of owning one.

your joining hurt my head with your lack of understanding.
you admit to owning a Mac, yet don't use it.
