You said, " I suspect it won't be long before an enterprising third party announces a convenient tray that holds the Wireless Keyboard and Magic Trackpad together."

A little bit duct tape would serve as well. There's almost nothing you can't do with the stuff....

Yes, as demonstrated by Consumer Reports :)

Thank you for mentioning trackballs. I currently use a trackball, and am considering a replacement. This trackpad looked like the ticket, but now I'm not so sure.

Does it also work for handwriting recognition? Can you input chinese characters with it?

Except, oddly, it's really not that good at anything involving ductwork.

(Which is really not so odd, because the named "duct tape" is revisionism.)

in your conclusion you say: "The only real caveat is that if you've got an exceptionally large display..."

How large is "exceptional"? I'm wondering how it would behave with my 27" iMac.

What would be really great, if those companies with programs for this, and other trackpads, would program a row of buttons along the top, side, bottom, or wherever, so that we could get more use out of this. I was considering this, but the Wacom Bamboo has those four programmable buttons along the edge which make it much more useful as a mouse or trackball substitute. It's even possible that they could have the program change the speed of the cursor depending on how fast you move it, the same way mouse and trackballs respond.

A few good software innovations, and this could really fly.

I think I'll wait a bit before deciding on anything.

Perfectly. I bought one this morning to go with my 27” iMac, REALLY missing the trackpad on my recently-sold MBP. That is, missing my MBP until this morning...

I can see your logic. I think any programmable buttons aren’t needed. As a right-handed user (brought up only for logistical rationale), I’m using the Trackpad with my left hand, keyboard in the center, and a Wacom Wireless Intuos tablet on my right - after tweaking the settings for the Trackpad, I’m already 90% of the way to the perfect workspace for me. Augmented by dozens of keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences, there’s almost, in my mind, little need for any more buttons on the Trackpad. To each, their own preference.

Is there a gesture that can be used to close tabs in Safari or delete selected files?

Now we just need a matching numeric keypad.

I find that what ever product comes out, most of you people just like to bitch, whine and moan. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Just shut the f___ up.
