Is there any difference between the My Book Studio and the My Book Studio LX other than the case?

Not a stitch, as far as I can see, based on reviews and WD's own specs.

I'm with NanoFrog. I lost 5 gigs of movies in a 9-month-old 1-tetrabyte WD used for media. I bought it last year on Macworld recommendation. Not only is the power button worthless, the drive is no longer readable. It was clearly a plastic not-well-made drive and I don't understand why macbook rates these highly. I would NOT buy another WD drive.

The old WD Drives were good. I bought a 2TB MyBook Studio LX and it is horrible!!! It wont boot it from firewire only USB and I have tried everything . Also it has the locked software package that I dont want or need. I love my old ones but this thing is headed for the trash I am going to try OWC hope it is better.. To bad as WD had me as a loyal and valuable customer....... I would not give this 1 mouse......

WD drives are a problem. You have promoted (reviewed) WD devices a lot here, at the expense of much better drives. I have the 1 tb version as well as 2 500 mb versions. the firewire port is very unreliable, I can only get these drives to work in USB. The power button is just a joke, completely worthless. the TINY, cheap usb mini-port is easy to have the cable just fall out. After many years and many drives, I believe these WD drives are TERRIBLE, unreliable, cheaply made trash. On the other hand my OWC drives are indestructible and flawless in performance 8I don't work for them in any way).
