Search is still very weak in my opinion. Whereas SmartMailboxes allows complex searches, you can't include multiple conditions on a search. This means I'm creating SmartMailboxes to do what I really want to do in a one time search.

Whenever I attach a file to a message, and I trash that file after sending the message, I cannot empty the trash anymore! The file is in use until I quit mail.app. I have this experience since 10.6.1.

Did I miss a patch/ new release of Mail, or was this review a year in the making?

I want to see the same layout options they put into the MobileMe version. And while they're at it, upgrade iCal the same way!

I've noticed an issue when I delete mail on my iPhone, it won't delete from Mail on my MacBook, and I have to close Mail and restart it for the delete to take place. I'm not sure if it's something AOL changed on the server side, but it's annoying.

Mail.app has one extremely irritating feature: it won't check all of your mailbox subdirectories for new messages on a regular basis. i.e., if you have some kind of server side filtering which sorts your mail into folders, Mail.app will only check the Inbox on a regular basis.

You can tell it to synchronise all mailboxes, which checks all folders, and it does it on startup, but it can be set to do it regularly.

Thunderbird does it.

Now THAT would be nice!

Ok so you work for Macworld so can you go into more detail as to what is needed to set up Macmail with a standard IMAP Exchange server 2003? My thought is that you need the actual numerical server address to make this work, or a specific static IP assigned to that mailbox? I'm very interested to hear your thoughts on the subject and a follow up to this one.

It doesn't support IMAP subscriptions properly. I want to unsubscribe to some of my "archive" mailboxes so Mail doesn't constantly try to update them. But Mail's subscriptions window is empty - it should include all of my personal mailboxes.

An intuitive, yet powerful and flexible mail application like Eudora is much needed for professionals.

I am unable to get custom stationery to work. I create the stationery and save it, but when I try to choose one for a new message nothing happens. If I create a link to the stationery file and place it in the dock, I can launch a new message from there. So, Mail can't open some of its own files? I've reported this bug to Apple through two releases of Mail and it still is not fixed.

Also, Mail sometimes does not sound the alert sounds I've set in my Rules preferences when the mail arrives. But, when I send a reply, then the alert sounds. Weird behavior!

I still can't find a good back-up solution for my mail emails...I use MobileMe and sync my mail on a MacBook, iMac, iPhone and MobileMe....My whole 'business' is in the mail folders...I can archive but find that awkward should I need to view an old email. Am I missing something here?
