Hmm. Talk about a standard 'support line'. Reboot and reinstall. What kind of world is this. I never liked dealing with windows when I was in the business because of just that....everything that was installed required a reboot. Or.....things had to be reinstalled because something fouled up.

Can't recall having to reinstall something in OSX because it wouldn't run. Been using OSX since it's inception!

This is a rather short review. I would like to see a bit more detail, especially for software that is designed to maintain (and has the potential to mess up) your system.

I once had this as a trial and after I had signed up I started receiving about 15 e-mails a day of spam. I e-mailed them about this, and they admitted it. I will NOT buy ANY software from them any more.

P.S. I still get spam.

Hello, I am Serge with ZeoBIT. I would like to thank you for all your comments and criticism. They will surely help us to make MacKeeper better.
I would like to apologize for the live-chat conversation Jeffery Battersby had with our support. We are working very hard on improving support service quality providing regular trainings but unfortunately some of the experts are still inexperienced.
I can promise that ZeoBIT will surely pay attention to this episode and improve dramatically support qualification.
Dear @padinc please describe me in details at serge@zeobit.com what your phrase "I e-mailed them about this, and they admitted it." means? Nobody here aware of it!
Regards

I agree, a three and a half star review should be more comprehensive. How good is their phone support, for instance? How reliable are all those utilities? Judging by the screenshots in the review and on their web site, they provide a range of functions, apparently covering the capabilities of a number of other Mac utility products. Still, the list seems a mile wide and an inch deep, offering mostly housekeeping operations. Beyond cleaning caches and log files, there appears to be little actual maintenance available compared to even free apps like AppleJack, Maintenance and Onyx, not to mention paid utilities like Cocktail. They don't compare at all to serious utilities like DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro and iDefrag. The headline brag on the MacKeeper web site, Everything For Your Mac – In One App, promises way more than they can possibly deliver, even with the various forms of live support.

For instance, when I get a call from a client with system performance problems, the first thing I usually have them do is run Apple's own Disk Utility, verifying their boot drive and repairing permissions. If the disk doesn't pass verification, I direct them to reboot in Single User mode and run AppleJack, which I've installed on all my clients' Macs. For routine, preventive upkeep, Maintenance is the easiest to use for most people. MacKeeper covers only two of the standard maintenance procedures provided by these free utilities, not even utilizing the CRON scripts built into OS X. I wouldn't want to work their support lines and be limited to what the MacKeeper app can do. That would be like trying to dribble a basketball with both hands tied behind you.

If you don't have your own reliable Mac guru to consult - or an Apple store in your vicinity - the MacKeeper support service may be a viable option, if you can afford it. Certainly there are times when all of us wish we had someone to call who knows more than we do. Still, if you add it up, the MacKeeper service is far more expensive than an AppleCare plan. If you have a Mac that's less than a year old, you'd do far better to go with AppleCare. Nevertheless, there probably is a niche for MacKeeper, for those without other support options with, say, an out of warrantee computer. I don't wish Zeobit ill, though I think their web site headline is over the top and amounts to deceptive advertising. By itself it makes me wary, like a car salesman promising the best deals in town. They would do well to find a less pretentious way to promote their product.

Here is a guote to the e-mail you sent out on July 9, 2010, "Unfortunately, we've become aware that our referral link system is used for sending spam :( We sincerely apologize to those who suffered from it. The referral link system is now fully deactivated. From now on we will think through all our promotions and special offers very thoroughly in respect to security. Thank you for your patience and understanding!".

This seems overpriced, and it's a yearly subscription on top of that? There are free utilities that do this, meaning this is overpriced and the yearly fee is a bit much to ask.

I installed the trial and the next day I had an alert on my screen that said my security is at risk, with a button to fix it. I thought my Norton Antivirus might be doing something, even though the alert looked a lot like one I saw on a Windows machine infected with Dr Guard.

I clicked the button and I was taken to MacKeeper's big, splashy, everything's-on-sale-with-a-slash-through-the-prices-to-prove-it "Buy Now" page. Very much like Dr Guard's behavior, actually.

I have removed MacKeeper. To their credit, the program did give me a chance to uninstall/remove associated files. An alert popped up prompting me to do so. Nice feature.

Too bad they feel they have to infect my computer with an alert scam in a clumsy attempt at marketing.

What ever you do DO NOT USE Mackeeper Updater!

It Replaced my Adobe Encore with GVOX Encore for music scoring. The third contact with MacKeeper's Support told me to "just re-install Adobe."

I agree with all above about the marketing that literally embeds itself in the blood of your computer to try and "trick" you into subscribing. What is sad is these tactics are not necessary because the program seems to do a really good job of everything else promised.

Live and learn.

Your Mac might not be windows but this entire product runs under wine (a windows emulator), so, yes, it is Windoes.

MacKeeper (version 1.0.2) is making my machine dog slow. Be aware that every function that this piece of software performs is done under wine (its all done in Windows emulation mode). This is actually a windows application running under a Windows virtual machine. The Real-time protection is unusable on a laptop and its painful on a dual quad core desktop because any code that you run and (especially) anything that you download gets slowed down because it all has to go thru this emulation process. If you don’t believe me, try the demo and watch the 4 wine processes and the wineserver with the activity monitor when you turn on real-time protection. Try visiting a few web pages and watch your CPU usage go to 100% and stay there. I’m very unhappy with this product and I have not gotten an answer as to why everything is run in emulation mode, I can only assume that they are Windows programmers and that’s all they know.
