With Google Voice, Whistle Phone, and other VOIP plans without contracts, the iPod Touch is now an even better alternative to an iPhone for those who spend most of their time connected to WiFi networks.

Could 'ave put in a 128 GB stick and kept the old thickness.
Now that could serve as an (overly expensive) replacement for the ipod classic.

Thanks Steve.

The specs on Apple's site say that the new Touch has "built in speaker." My question would be, is that a built in speaker like last year's Nano which you really couldn't hear unless you held it up to your ear, or is it a speaker like the iPhone has. On the iPhone I can listen to audiobooks and podcasts through the speaker if it is lying on a table next to me. That is so much more restful than having to have it plugged into your head all the time. Can I do that with the new Touch?ß

WTF! Why in gods name did they not put a decent camera on this thing? Unless I am missing something, the photos are not even 1MP, so I'll stick with my iPad and save my money for another round of updates!

Sweet! After returning my iPhone 4 (too expensive per month), the new iPod Touch 64GB will be a great replacement for my aging original iPhone (which I am currently using as an iPod Touch). Can't wait to get the features of the iPhone 4 once again.

@tfrogh: Your iPod Touch has great resale value. If you want a new model, sell your iPod Touch now on eBay and you will be surprised on how much you will get for it. I have sold all my old iPod models on eBay (started them at $1) and they all got very close to the current sale price. There is a great demand for used iPods, especially those in mint condition.

The 3rd Gen iPod Touch had an improved speaker over the 1st and 2nd Gen iPod Touch, but still not as good as the iPhone. However, now that the new model supports FaceTime, it may have the same quality speaker as the iPhone.

They did. The cameras are the same as the iPhone. VGA for the front facing camera for FaceTime, and HD camera on the rear for stills and live video capture.

Straight from the Apple Specs:
.
Video recording, HD (720p) up to 30 frames per second with audio; still photos (960 x 720) with back camera
.
Sounds like a pretty poor still camera to me!

It never fails. After every single Apple roll-out, there are so many complaints about what WASN'T updated, added, etc. Some people will NEVER be satisfied. "I'm going to wait for the next generation..." THEY JUST ANNOUNCED THE NEW GEN! COME ON!
