It works to this extent: When you attach the dongle to the iPad and string a cable between the iPod touch and iPad, the iPad will see and copy images from the iPod touch. (So, it works the same way as it does with the iPhone 4.) However, you can't copy images from your camera to the iPod touch via the camera connector.

If you have an Apple Store nearby it's worth your while to try the camera in person. You may find its quality acceptable for your needs.
Also, listen to tomorrow's podcast (when it comes out). Jason, Dan, and I talk at great length about our experiences.

When using the IPhone 4 i cannot help but notice how truly black the blacks are displayed. Can you say the same thing about the IPod touch?

digital compass and
GPS.
I noticed that the Wi-Fi only iPad has the digital compass.
The iPod touch is something to be taken hiking and on camping trips (just think of all the great field guides you can put on it!), and a digital compass and GPS would be knockout features.
Hm, what about a thermometer, a barometer, ... ?
Generally speaking, all other things (like weight) being equal, the more sensors the better.

You're correct, the off-angle viewing is not as good on the iPod touch. Angle each to around 45 degrees and the iPod touch is more difficult to view.

A better camera in the rear and more software to improve pictures would have persuaded me. They did neither and so don't get my money

...but if the new iPod touch is really that thin, maybe the buttons *are* "discreet". :-)
