The ONE extension I want for either Safari or Google Chrome, is a Sidebar like Firefox, where I can have access to all my nicely organized bookmarks without having to scroll through the entire darn list every time I want to go to another site. I am just amazed that no one has ever done something like this. Am I the only person on the planet that uses a Sidebar?

Apple can really be stupid sometimes. I just went to the site for the first time. There is no search feature to find extensions. Come on Apple, this is not 1990.

I use Firefox for 2 reasons...Download Helper and Xmarks. When I find a funny video on YouTube or Somewhere else, I can save it with Downloadhelper very easily. So many things disappear from YouTube so quickly, this is a must have. Xmarks works on both but it started on Firefox. I love having all of my bookmarks at home, work and on my phone for free. I hope they find a way to continue the service even if it is for a nominal fee.

3 for 3. The lack of Sidebar bookmarks a la Firefox is the only reason I have left to prefer Firefox over Safari.

I'm not a developer, but I'm tempted to give it a go, the Sidebar bookmark area is a wonderfully useful feature. Having to replace the page I am looking at with a page of bookmarks is annoying to say the least.

I wonder what the author's bosses think of him promoting AdBlock.

I don't use ad blockers because I want the sites I browse to remain free.

Editing bookmarks is very easy in Safary: just click on the open book icon of your bookmarks bar on top of the window (if it is invisible, choose "show bookmarks bar" from View menu). There you go, with a fine iTunes like interface.

Using bookmarks in a clever way: put them into the bookmarks bar. 1st level folders become separate dropdown menus. At every other level folders become submenus.

No, you're not alone! I find it surprising, too, that something like this isn't out yet. It's so much easier when you just have to go to the left of the page, instead of calling the bookmarks page (one click), selecting the bookmark (second click), and activating the page (third click). Please somebody make a bookmarks sidebar!

Downloading a youtube video can be done natively with Safari. You just have to know how. Don't know though if it's possible with FF (natively)

This can be done without any plugin by going to Window -> Activity and from the list spot the address with MB in correspondence. That's where your video is downloading. Double click on it and it should start downloading it. ;)

Moreover i can copy and paste the link into any modern download accelerator like Speed Download. Download starts right away.

Personally i don't need an extension for this.

I am also amazed that they didn't figure this out.

I can't leave Firefox because I feel lost on browsers that don't support cmd+[#] to switch tabs. I hate Safari's implementation that then loads the corresponding bookmark... anyone know a good extension to fix that functionality? I tried an applescript solution (can't remember the name) I found online but it messed with all the keyboard shortcuts on my computer.

For the first time, huh? Not to the linked page in the article above, apparently, where command-F works very well indeed.
Not to google, either, I'll guess, where “Safari extensions” will find Apple's free listing (grouped by function) and even extensions that developers haven't submitted to Apple, or perhaps haven't been accepted/validated (yet?). Add “YouTube” to make Google's life easier and you'll find something very like what you find so great about Firefox.
Come on, Tom, this is 2010. Use The Force.

But, Tom, there is a search feature on the site. If you're using a Mac, type Command-F (In Windows, Control-F) and enter the word that you're searching for on the page. And you'll be taken there.

The bonus is that this feature works on all websites.

So who is the "stupid" one, as you say?

To cycle through tabs in Safari, Control + Tab.
