I not holding my breath that an issue I already had with Word 2008 and mail merging will be fixed. Office has had a history with some of the more obscure bugs surviving several major releases.

You can give Microsoft one thing... they are consistent. The only company I know that releases beta as final release software, and uses the world as their testing ground.

The horrible thing is that if there are 20 updates, you cannot just apply the latest one, but every single one in a row. A real pain, for instance, with Office 2004 and 2008.

In my humble opinion all these novelties of Microsoft Office aren't more useful than previous versions. It's well known that Microsoft often release new programs and add-ons with minimal changes only for getting money. I'll stay with my Office 2008 and nobody will convince me.
MacKeeper - confidence and security for your Mac!

Just want to contribute my 2¢ that I haven't experienced any issues with Office Mac 2011 family pack. All the applications launch and perform noticeably quicker than Office 2008 and it sure is great having my macros back after 3+ years of workarounds. I'm happy with the new Office and glad to see Microsoft continuing to support Mac OS.

I second Localboy--Office 2011 applications are much faster and more responsive. Seeing as I've been waiting for Pages to gain just a little more functionality that I use as a fairly advanced user of word processing features, I bought Office 2011 after Apple's apps were a no-show. Strangely, there haven't even been any leaks about upgraded functionality of the products. Given the absolute silence surrounding Apple's suite (even rumours, which I follow as a guilty pleasure...), coupled with Apple's uneven support for its software, I stayed with Office. I haven't regretted it.

I installed Office for Mac 2011 Monday; then came the update — which would not install :-0 Went to the Microsoft support URL specified, and there was no reference to 2011! Just Office 2004 & 2008. {It was later explained to me "that they not really all that set up yet for supporting Mac's 2011....."] When I would enter my Pdt. #, it said the number I entered was NOT for "Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 Home Use Program", but rather, for "Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 Home Use Program".
Wanna read that again? Finally got to a human, who switched me to a 2nd & then 3rd person — who solved the problem: I keep all my apps in the Applications Folder in separate folders with the name(s) of the app. That way I can keep .docs & .pdf's of license codes, etc. all together. Office 2011 simply left a large black logo in my Applications Folder, and couldn't be found by the installer, as I moved it to a folder with the exact same name.
Techie admitted that their "search" function for the install isn't all that robust....."
Makes one wonder how well thought out their Product Launch mechanism is......

One more thing: Can anyone suggest a good Guide for Entourage-users who have to go back to Outlook [not in itself a problem], but now need to find out where are the features and keyboard shortcuts I learned for Entourage....
Even the simple things: I can locate a Contact — but cannot edit it

Hi Terrier - yes I have a good recommendation - use Entourage.
I messed with it for two days and sent it all back. Here were my reasons for Amazon and ms (for the upgrade to get outlook)

The product listing is misleading and I thought I would be getting Entourage's replacement "Outlook" as part of the package. NOPE - it is NOT part of the package - you either have to get the Office Mac Home and Business 2011 version OR pay for and download an upgrade from ms!

And to me outlook is not a Mac program! It is windows program running on a Mac and to me it reinforces exactly why I do not use windows! While I suppose it is usable (and if you have had to work in the windows world you will be used to it) but they have done some DUMB things which degrades Entourage's usefulness!

Grouping conversations is only the grouping of the same subject - not really a conversation-thread. I thought the other attractive portion of outlook would be the new way the messages are saved instead of one gargantuan file that is updated - now I was told only the new portions are saved each time.

BUT grouping and small file savings are not worth the problems!

Just a FEW of the irritating issues *
Can't just turn off an account - you have to discard it.
No auto spell check before send!
No combo key strokes to spell check.
You have to select each word with the mouse and right click to correct.
bcc under OPTIONS tab versus tabbing forward
Highlighted word does not enter into "reference" check - you have to type it in
When closing a message no longer type "S" for save, or "D" for discard!
The designer loves mouse clicks instead of key strokes.
ms claims it is the most compatible software for a Mac - Maybe...if you are a windows person to begin with.

Personally I can't stand it, and do not see any worthwhile reasons to put up with a design that makes a product more difficult to use so back it went.

PS the failure to capitalize ms and outlook was not an oversight.

Well, I HAVE found how to "edit" Contacts....if you can get to them. In 9 times out of 10, when I tried to switch from MAIL View to CONTACTS View — it locks up ["Outlook is not responding" it says in the Force Quit window, in red lettering....], and required a force quit & restart.
When I finally get access to Contacts, people I know are there [as it has been pulling incorrect addresses for them] cannot be found! I have done Searches, and that brings up a window [sometimes] of the Contact you want — but you cannot edit in that window!!!

And the SpellCheck — GG! You have to go through so many steps its easier to manually do it.

But I won't go back to Entourage — I have lost so many hundreds of important business emails with the Bg E over the years that I have to choose between the lesser of two evils.

My Mac IT guy will only discuss Mac Mail with he — he will only use that & not discuss any other. Alas, its too limited for my [business] uses.......
