I've got both the CableJive extender and the cheaper version with limited functionality. The CableJive cable was the only one that allowed me to connect my iPhone to the fancy in-dash nav/music system on a newer Infinti FX35. The cheaper cable didn't seem to provide all the connections necessary. The CableJive was well worth the extra $$$. I was able to use the phone instead of stashing it in the console (I was the passenger) while we both could use the awesome in-dash interface to control the music.

"...if your older speaker system wasn't designed with mobile phones in mind, it may produce static or buzzing ...[and]... will produce a warning message on your player's screen."
I have never had an interference problem on a connected device, but I get this warning on my iPhone with an iHome alarm clock, a Mazda car connection kit, and many other devices. I have a Scosche adapter to allow charging on the Mazda, but it doesn't eliminate this pointless warning. Usually I just ignore the message and everything works fine. Would appreciate an adapter that crossed the appropriate pins to eliminate this warning, or even better, a way to turn the warning off (forever) in the iPhone software.

The Cablejive is also great for extending the iPhone above a dock connection when it is housed within an Otterbox case. Without the extender, I would have to remove my case before using it with any other accessory.

There's a way to do it... but it requires jailbreaking. I, too, just ignore the warning and everything works fine.

So will these actually allow my iPod to charge on docks which use the Firewire charging, ie they convert Firewire -> USB? If so, awesome.
