>QuickCursor currently supports eight popular Mac OS X text editors

But alas, not TextEdit? So one has to purchase another text editor?

Idunno, this doesn't sound significantly more efficient than simply having a text editor open and just using CMD-Tab to switch to it, compose your text, CMD-A and CMD-C to select the text, CMD-Tab back to the original and then just CMD-V to paste. JMO.

Agreed! Plus having to buy a text editor makes it not so much a gem. And I own Quickeys, I could easily build a Marco to do exactly what you describe. Or just use good old key commands.

No, Quickcursor is brilliant. The main use for me is in switching between text editors when I'm coding. TextMate and BBEdit each have their own strengths, so it's a great boon to be able to move between them like this. And right now I'm typing this in WriteRoom, which is a nicer experience than the little box on the MacWorld web page.

If you read the reviews on the App store page right now you'll see that people who like it really like it.

It's essentially an add-on for people who already use one of the supported text editors as their main program for working with text.

As someone who's spent years using just such a procedure, I find QuickCursor to be quite a bit more convenient and efficient. YMMV.

This program works great. Downloaded and used TextMate to edit in Adobe Dreamweaver CS5, as TextMate has a lot better color schemes and options for writing code. This program was a real find. Thank you for writing about it and if Jesse Grosjean (the developer) is reading this, thanks for developing another great program.

(I used QuickCursor to write my comments as well)

I want to congratulate the author of this post, for his excellent choice of app. QuickCursor is the first and only app I bought from the App Store yesterday ; such a coincidence.

Several comments seem to be unaware that Textwrangler is free. I use Textwrangler when I want avoid hidden or special formatting characters from many word processor apps. As a free alternative to TextEdit's RTF-handling capabilities, I use Bean for Mac. I don't totally forsake TextEdit; it doesn't cost extra. (grin)

Quick Cursor is a handy tool for jumping around during multiple editing, multi-format chores. Nice column, Dan, as usual.

Cool, I’ll look into it.

Nice! Purchased, downloaded, launched, posted this reply all in less than 30 seconds. This has a lot of potential for me.

Wish it supported Dragon Naturally Speaking's text editor. Any chance?

I'm already beginning to miss shareware. No way to try this app out without paying for it - it's not available at the developer's web site. There seems to be a trend already to Mac App Store only sales. I herewith post my protest of this policy; if I can't try before I buy, I won't buy. Reviews are no substitute for my own experience with an app.

10.6 only. Sigh. $5 just to try it, no thanks.
Write an Automator, Applescript or macro to do the same thing on my "old" Mac? Easy.
But it does sound cool if you have 10.6 and $5 to waste.
If you don't know Applescript and you don't have a macro program, why not spend a few dollars more and get a whole macro program?

Shareware and functional demos, yes. Therefore Applestore, no.
