What model Canon printer was the reader referring to? Before directing him to buy more equipment, maybe all he needed was troubleshooting to make sure he installed his wireless printer correctly. When I set up my wireless printer (a Brother laser printer), it was more difficult than I thought it should be. If it indeed is a wireless model, I can see how the reader might conclude that his printer needed to be wired in after all.

Don't count on your printer utilities to be available over wi-fi. My biggest disappointment was finding out I couldn't monitor ink levels wirelessly on my epson printer.

My Epson Artisan 810 is wireless and is connected to neither a computer or a router. Of course there has to be a wireless router to serve the printer, but it connects to that wirelessly. Perhaps they should have done some more homework before making a purchase. There seems to be quite a few wireless printers these days that don't need to be physically connected.

I am able to monitor the ink levels on my Artisan 810. You've got to install the sw that comes with it to get all the bells and whistles, including wireless scanning which I love.

Some Canon printers and All-in-One's require an initial installation wired via USB to a computer. After the initial installation of the printer, and the software on the computer, you can unplug the printer from the computer and access it over WiFi.

If someone were to quickly scan the installation instructions, they might stop reading after the bit about wired installation, and give up. I'm not sure if the OP has that issue or something different.

If you decide to go the Airport Express route, check Apple's website for refurbished. Right now they're going for $69 but whoops, out of stock at the moment.

Many printers' features are not usable when they are connected via USB to an AirPort base station. YMMV, but don't be surprised if things don't work properly...

That's true for newer printers (I'm happy for you), but not my 3 year old Epson - that's according to Epson's own support website. BTW, should have added that I am using an Epson 820 linked to my Airport Base Station via USB.

I do need some help with an ipad. I had purchased one for my wife at christmas. I was unaware of the fact that it is almost impossible to print from one. I have a Xerox network printer at home plugged directly onto my network for some reason when my wife reads her mail in AOL she can not print because it comes up no printers available or found. Can someone give me a hand with this one?

If both your printer and your computer support Bluetooth, you can use the printer wirelessly. To find out whether your printer and computer support Bluetooth, check the documentation that came with them. (re: http://docs.info.app....5/en/9030.html)

I had an HP all in one, supposedly wireless. Could NEVER make it work. What was most frustrating, the HP support-- they didn't have a clue re MACS and snow leopard, and each time I contacted them they gave me long and drawn out instructions, many conflicting with one another... I'm not a computer dummy but I I finally just gave up-- not worth the trouble - using existing printers on a home network / printer sharing -continues.... gave the printer to a non profit student organization... good riddance...

It works great for a Mac, but it will not work for a PC. My girlfriends Gateway Laptop cannot access the printer on my Airport Extreme network. I can get the PC to recognize the printer, but I cannot get it to print.
