The reviewer has given short shrift to the Nikon D3100. First of all, it cannot reasonably be compared to the Canon T2i, whose street price is more than $150 higher than the Nikon D3100's. Note that the Canon T2i also lacks an articulated LCD screen, as do most DSLR's. Faulting the Nikon D3100 for lack of a feature that many DLSR's also lack doesn't make sense.

The reviewer also calls the Nikon D3100's image quality "average" without saying anything about how this conclusion was reached. Nikon's 18-55 kit lens is widely regarded as superior compared to similar kit lenses bundled with competing entry-level DSLR's. Concerning the Nikon D3100's image quality, the reviewer says, "Overall, the D3100 didn't score quite as well as the Canon Rebel T2i in our lab tests, but the results were close." However, he fails to point out that the Canon T2i is the best DSLR in its class—as well as being quite a bit more expensive than the Nikon.

Overall, I would judge this review as potentially misleading to its intended audience and encourage readers who may be considering the Nikon D3100 to read other reviews of this camera.

Personally I thought the review to be quite informative and fair by comparing D3100 to the Canon T2i. Both cameras are the respective companies 2nd tier entry level DSLR camera with video capabilities. Second, their image quality rating was clearly defined as being based upon their lab tests. 'Third, the reviewer was not "reviewing the kit lens but the image quality provided by the camera's sensor. Fourth, the review quite clearly states the T2i is a superior product - which you seem to acknowledge but argue with at the same time. Fifth, the D3100 apparently is meant to compete with the Canon T2i. While is obviously costs a bit less, you also get a bit less of a camera. If price is the ultimate determining factor, the D3100 provides a good bang for the buck. If quality is more important at a relatively comparable price, the T2i is a better option. Isn't that a proper role of a fair review of any product?

Removing the IR that prevents from using the remote is really a cheap move, also no bracketing. If you take photo seriously, pile your money till you can get the D90.

100% agree. I am a beginning "prosumer" and decided on the D90 and could not be happier. If I went with D3000 or D3100, I would probably want to upgrade sooner meaning more cash! You have to think how long you want to use your camera and how serious you take your hobby. If you see yourself progressing quickly through features, it's wise to spend a little more now than later. Again . . . love the D90!
