As for importing anything destined for Word, good luck. Just trying to get them to work in Word takes a lot of messing around. Word just seems to always want to "help" you by making minor adjustments to everything so nothing lines up properly.

My venerable Label Printer Pro 7 is not free, but many of the thousands of users that have been enjoying it for the last 15 years have told me how much they like it.
See for yourself, download a free demo at www.payplaysoftware.com
It is also important to remember that for address labels Address Book has built in label printing capability Even though we sell a mail merge app too, we often suggest for people to use Apple's built in solution.
It is all about what works for you.

Pages has it's strengths and Word has it's strengths. Personally I have both Pages 09 and Word 2004 and Word 2011 on my MBP. I use each program to it's strengths.
Additionally I do not think that Apple intended Pages to be a replacement for Word. Pages is compatible with Word files (some more than others) however Pages has it own strengths in the areas of templates and full page layouts. Word's strength is in it's extreme depth of features and it's extensibility, however Word has been around alot longer than Pages. I doubt that some of Words features will ever make there way into Pages because that is not what Apple intends Pages to be. Time will tell...

While your statement is in some ways correct, I'm not sure I totally agree with the seemingly all encompassing statement because it is simple to find and install the templates and they then work quite nicely. Even though I like some features of MS Word (I use it extensively at work for creating forms using tables, etc.) I find that, of the subset of features I personally use in MS Word, Pages handles most if not all of them. However, the features are accessed in different ways and don't always have the same names so it took me some time to learn how do what I need.
