I am guessing Mr. Peterson's far-away audience would be sitting in a lecture hall, with the iChat connection showing on the big screen.
Otherwise, he'd be doing this with only one or two people?
I guess it'd be cool if this could be used for online school, in which the instructor is presenting live to 60 students that are at 60 different locations, 60 different Macs.

Some businesses use HDTVs for conference-room presentations so there's that in-between audience as well.

Ok, that's neat.
But is there a similar thing that's cross-platform? As much as *I* love my Macs, most of the folks I collaborate with use PCs.

Re @folklore's question, isn't iChat based upon an open standard (XMPP) -- same as Google Talk? Does this extend to app sharing too? If so, that would make an interesting piece on How to iChat with folks on other platforms.

It nice to hear that we can now use iChat for video conference and at the same to present slides to the audience. Although not many may benefit now from such innovative idea/creation (like what Javair had said), some will definitely benefit from the add-on features. Cheers to Apple.

We have been using this presentation function for over a year for communication between researchers in UK and Japan. Using iChat I co-presented at a conference in UK from the comfort of my office in Japan.
