Is there a reason you recommended going the SSB route instead of using BusyCal as your Google Calendar client? We've been using BusyCal as our Google Calendar client for over a year, and we find it to be absolutely fantastic. Everything we had hoped & dreamed that iCal would be, but iCal could never be. (iCal is permanently gone from our dock as well.)

Great question! My goal in this piece was to show how to replace what is essentially free software—iCal—with a free alternative. BusyCal is great, but honestly I feel happy with my Fluid approach. If you want to make the investment, though, BusyCal is great software.

Great article! But why did you opt for Fluid instead of still using iCal as a client for your Google Calendar? I understand that Google Calendar and iCal both can do CalDAV (http://www.google.co...swer=99358#ical).

2+ years ago, I had trouble with subscribed calendars in iCal leading to general unpleasant crashiness. It may have been a fluke, it may be a long-fixed issue, but I've been hesitant ever since. But you raise a good point, and I'll give it another look.

Why not use iCal as a Google Calendar client. It's an excellent Google Calendar client and things that interact with iCal will interact with Google Calendar by way of it. Also, why use the Exchange connection to Google Calendar on your iOS devices when the faster less-buggy directly-supported Google Calendar support exists?

I've been using Google Calendar for a few years now and it works swimmingly with Apple's own products -- even with a dozen delegate calendars on there.

I prefer to integrate Google Calendar with iCal via BusySync.

I use iCal WITH google calendar. That way, I get the ability to quick-make events from dates and times in the text of e-mails I read in Apple's mail program, and they go straight into my google calendar.

And, I agree with Phil Durt, above. You don't have to use up one of your exchange account slots on your iphone. There is a CalDAV-based method of synching your phone's calendar with google calendar over the air. Use that instead.

When you export your iCal calendar and import it into Google, do the recurring events show up as such or as many separate individual events? I once exported out of Yahoo and the recurring events messed up, so I am curious.
