Very nice of Dan to call it "slimmed down." In reality, it's lacking so many functions which 3.x versions had that I found it unusable.
What it has works well, though, and certainly is worth a look for people just discovering news reader headline and summary delivery. I like the look and everything I tried worked great, it simply had to many restrictions-by-omission for my taste. I'm sure that's mostly because I've been using NetNewsWire for almost 6 years, so weigh that into my opinion, which is all this is. If you try this and find it lacking, try the latest 3.x version for much more flexibility until 4.x becomes further developed. I'm looking forward to it!

"But if you’re an existing NetNewsWire power user, many of the features you’re accustomed to may not be present: to wit, syncing"
That's one feature I actually won't miss. What are some of the other "many features" I will miss? Smart lists? Clippings? Flagging?

I tried this app (non-MAS version) and didn't like how it kept all the old read feeds forever. I couldn't delete the old feeds no matter what (delete grayed out), even if they were weeks old. Support sucked and primitive using Google Discussions. I prefer to use the web version of Google Reader.

i used to use netnewswire on my iphone and mac. i've since switched to reeder on both systems. the iphone version is just packed with more features, and unlike netnewswire for iphone, the developer actually does push out updates from time to time. i haven't tried reeder for ipad, but it looks better than the experiences i've had with netnewswire for ipad. and while the mac version of reeder is in beta and doesn't have all of its' features at the moment (like subscribing to feeds), it's full of multitouch gestures for easy navigation and just feels better to use.
stick with netnewswire if you'd like, but i think reeder is the way to go.

I second DougAdams's question.
I'd purchased NNW back before Newsgator got its hands on it, only to see it released as a free app. Then it went back to being paid, without any acknowledgement for prior owners at all. That's when they went to using Google Reader for synching, and I was too ticked off to pay for the upgrade, so I've gotten used to living without synching.

Totally fed up with Netnewswire. It doens't imort Google alerts
I fully recommend "GRUML" It does the job much better and it imports Google your alerts
Netnewswire goes in the bin
