It will be out on March 11th.
And Jason could you tell me what the size of the Garageband App is. I only have a 16GB First gen iPad and I wanted to know what I would need to remove in order to fit it!
Thanks

You don't need a "fancy input" to use a guitar with GarageBand on the Mac. You only need an audio cord with one end that will fit your guitar and another that will plug into the quarter inch external mic jack on the Mac (if your cord has a mono tip, you may have to jiggle it a bit to get it to sit right in the Mac's stereo input). That's it. No pre-amplification required. The virtual amps in GarageBand provide a plethora of sound modification.

Thank you very much, I went crazy deleting Apps, books, videos and music hehe...Since you mentioned it was quite large I assumed something in the range of Rage HD, Infinity Blade or such.
Yay My iPad will be big enough
Thanks Jason, congrats on getting an early look at an iPad 2

I know you mentioned that there is no importing... but is there any way to share projects with other "GarageBand for iPad" users?
Wondering if there's a way to save files and send them back and forth to a friend via Dropbox or email: Not as sound files but as .band files for continued work?

I love playing with the app but wish it were possible to select my own set of 8 chord combinations for the smart guitar instead of having to stick with the what comes up. I'd like to be able to use the 7th, diminished and augmented chords for the songs I've composed, for example. Does anyone know whether this is possible? Or do I have to wait for a future update that hopefully will have this feature?

Importing audio to GB is now quite easy. You need to use uncompressed audio (wav or aiff) and use iTunes to drop it into your iPad's shared space. Then get an empty track up and tap to bring up an 'Import' button. Do make sure you have section length set to 'Auto' if you want to use more than the first 8 bars!

The new version of GarageBand (as of Sept 2012) has a cool new multitasking twist. You can start recording in GarageBand, leave the app, and run another program -- it will capture your recording. I just wrote a review of GarageBand on my site, Appledystopia...
I think it is a great app and worth every penny. $4.99?!? You'd be a fool not to buy it. Even if you have no musical talent, you can make music with this...
