I've been using Ghostery for awhile now and it works great. It shows me that as I'm viewing this MacWorld page, Ghostery has blocked seven (yes 7!) bugs that MacWorld uses to try to track me! Hmmm.

Yup, Private Browsing in the Safari menu doesn't seem to pull it off all by itself.

Darn! Ghostery only blocked six bugs on this page for me, not seven.

It depends on the page you are viewing. Front site index, regular article page, forum index, forum reply page, ... not all services are linked in every page. Not sure why. Could be an oversight.

But, I'm happy to see there's only 5-7 any more. It used to be between 5-9 last fall, when I first started using Ghostery per MacWorld's recommendation - thank you :) - after MW cross-posted an article on 7 security essentials for FireFox:

I went ahead and downloaded Ghostery for Safari, Firefox and Chrome. In each browser it provided an easy to use setup wizard. Very user friendly. By the way, I downloaded Ghostery for each browser in each browser.

I have this too. The one thing I haven't yet understood is that (with bugs by default disabled) how to turn one particular item on.

Help me understand this. I see 8 scripts on this page. When I look at the actual scripts, they are large and apparently will require some amount of processing time to execute, slowing my computer down. I assume that they are d'l on page entry and run before the page is completely rendered. There could be sites I visit that have even more scripts. Are these scripts then residing on my Mac or are they sent down each time I hit a page? If they are stored on my Mac, where?

I used the Set-up Wizard, but didn't know if I should select all Bugs/Cookies. I have no idea about any of these webs sites! Should I select all the sites listed?

Also, I don't see any scripts for this page. What should I have enabled/disabled?

Thanks for this one. I have been on the prowl for one such as this to help remove that which I do not want. Seamless and to the point.
