I have a WAV audio file that is too large for my server to send as an attachment to email. Can I compress it and, is so, how?

Audio data is very rarely amenable to any compression beyond that already applied by the encoder. Best practice is not to send it through e-mail (because your server might not have the lowest limit among the boxes through which it will pass) but to find a storage space online to which you can write and from which your recipient(s) can read. Then just send mail with the URL.

When you say "find a storage space online" do you mean a website or a blog. I'm thinking it may be simpler for me to put the WAV file on a CD and snail mail it. What do you think?

I'd sign up for a free Dropbox account, which provides you with 2GB of storage. You can then upload the file to your Dropbox and send a link to those you want to share it with.

There are many options for online storage that are inexpensive or even free. Last time I looked, this was still a feature offered by many ISPs to their customers, so you may already have this.

Neverthess, certainly burning to a CD and shipping it is viable. It'll probably cost you more and definitely be slower. But if it's a process you're comfortable with there's no real reason not to go that route.
