MacWorld, I think you need to send the forum police out.
I was quite shocked to see that (upon an accidental wrong click (trying to modify search terms)) the MacWorld new member list is full of spammers, going back several years. So, it doesn't look like it was ever policed, at least not recently. I used to have to do this "weeding" on a daily & weekly basis when I moderated and administered forums.
These " members " have 0 posts and of course have a nice URL in their profile for: medicine, adult shops, coffeemakers, tshirts, nike shoes, improving your credit, sprinkler systems, sinks, dvd cleaning, limo services, coffee, solar power, watches, vacation rentals, shed plans, luxury phones, golf academy, cheaper health insurance, life insurance, college degrees ...
Quite a funny list, but anyhow: you name it, you can supposedly get it through the MW member list.

I can only go back to August 2009, but likely goes back farther than that.
Sorry for the bad news.

I'm kind of surprised nobody at MacWorld has commented on this and/or passed this on to the people managing the forum.

I was a bit surprised when I saw how many accounts had not been active for over a year. May be a bit of work to "clean out the dead wood" so to speak, but a bit of clean up couldn't hurt.

Maybe they try to comment and can't.
the comment button following stories has been dead for me since I signed up as an insider. the only way i can comment is through the insider forum. Sucks!

That's a different thing. I have Safari trouble on various sites. Both desktop and mobile.
Macworld has over 150000 registrations with 0 activity going back over 10 years. Many with a blank username, which technically you can't register with as you have to have a valid username. Many carry an external URL .... I used to fight forum spam on a daily basis till some anti-measures put a stop to it, but then you still have to keep patching ...

I know we have a reason for leaving dead accounts in-system, but I'm not sure why. (Above editorial's heads, I'm afraid.) I'll poke around development and see if I can't get an answer on this.
