Documents in the Cloud seems to be a poor substitute for iDisk, in that it's not initially available in 3rd-party apps and then must be specifically added by developers for it to work. Not that iDisk was really good, but I was hoping that they would improve it to the point of something like Dropbox instead of just killing it off.
I'll miss the keychain and widget sync as well.

It seems odd that Apple is suggesting that these features (and thus, cloud storage) do not represent their core competency, so they're being dropped just as they introduce iCloud. Very odd.
Given this news, I don't want to add anything else to my MobileMe account. But I'm hesitant to migrate to some other service(s) right away with the possibility (hope?) that Apple may offer some alternative on iCloud. Any likelihood of this happening at all?
Assuming that Apple does NOT offer an alternative though, will MacWorld or someone on this thread offer alternatives?
It was really nice having a one-stop shop for these services. I'd hate to have to rely on 4 different services/companies/passwords to handle all these features, but if I must, which companies offer the best value for these services. I really, really, REALLY don't want to bother with Facebook. Any suggestions?

apple encouraged users to set up email aliases and allowed each user to set up 4 or 5 additional addresses to point to their main me/mac email account. will those also be disappearing or with apple grandfather in those who already have and use multiple email address aliases? it would be a huge pain in the ass if apple removes those additional addresses from each account.

GoDaddy.com. Buy your preferred domain name and then add web hosting. They have good customer service if you need to get educated on how that works.
After that, uploading your website will be as simple as it already is when you upload to mobileme - and no one can take it away from you (on a whim).
