Considering that there will not be a need to burn, print, and distribute discs, it would be easy to assume that the time from gold master to release is considerably shorter than it has been in the past. If gold master is out, release can be any day now.

What about installing Lion on a different partition in the hard disk? Can I do that? Meaning I should have BOTH Snow Leopard AND Lion on a to-be-partioned hard disk, but both BOOTABLE (I'm OK with either/or boot-up).

I have an iMac late 2006, 2.16GHz intel core2 duo, snow leopard with 3GB RAM, wich is the full capacity of RAM for this iMac. If I install Lion can I replace the 1GB RAM module and replace it with 2GB module in order to have 4GB RAM in my iMac?

Yes, you can definitely do that. Just go to this link and it will tell you how. It works with the developer previews, so it should work with the retail release.

Is your recommendation of using certified RAM based on Lion experience or because of previous MacOSX versions? I have Kingston HyperX in my MBP, and though I kept the original bars because I know of the problem, I would be happy if I could spare me the search and reinstallation of the old RAM. Someone has advice on HyperX?

I have a mid-2009 17-inch MBP with a 3.06 GHz Intel Core Duo and 8 GB of RAM. I know I meet the minimum, but does anyone here have experience running pre-release Lion in a similar configuration?

If so, how did it perform?

I assume you meant Core 2 Duo. Because developers are under NDA, they can't really comment on how well it performs. However, consider that your Mac is far from the minimum. I have a MacBook Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz with 4GB of RAM from late 2007 that I imagine will run Lion just fine - it's a lot slower than your MBP.

"Thanks to Lion's Mac App Store distribution, the process of purchasing, obtaining, and installing Mac OS X should be faster and easier than ever--at least for most people."

I could drive 15 miles to my nearest Apple Store, wait in line, buy Lion and drive back home, possibly even stopping to eat and seeing a movie and still get it installed faster and easier than it will be for me to download 4 GB's of data.

Do you think that Parallels will run with Lion?

Does anyone know if the new gestures built into Lion will also work with the Magic Mouse in addition to the Magic TrackPad?

But… "The main reason for this requirement is that Lion will be available only via the Mac App Store…” There’s a bit of a hitch in your plan...
