I am a developer and I have gotten so used to my usual workflow that involves using spaces and expose with the flick of a mouse button (Performance MX) I am curious if any other "Power Users" have experienced an unpleasant upgrade in terms of workflow?

I'm in no rush to upgrade. I usually wait until a major OS update has been out for at least 12 months before I consider it. That should be enough time for all my must have apps to get compatible and OS bugs to get fixed and features tweaked.

So can I ignore all the stuff about gestures and go on using my old Microsoft mouse with the scroll wheel operating the way I'm used to?

I hope someone can help me with one question...I have a 2008 black MacBook; this is before the glass trackpad. Can I use the pad on my MacBook for the gestured movements? If not, there are many Lion features that I won't be able to use but would like to.

I am still about another year or longer from a laptop upgrade.

I've been eagerly awaiting news on the screen sharing improvements. Does Lion use the resolution of the machine you are remoting from (like Windows Remote Desktop)? Or does it still use the resolution of the machine you are remoting to? This is a big deal when remoting into a 27" iMac from a laptop.

So far, seems pretty good. Not sure I am into the scrolling behavior to change with a mouse. Makes sense with a trackpad, but the mouse is just weird. No visual feedback to switch back from full-screen is very unapple like (really have to know a key?) My mom will NEVER get that!!

I am glad that they are going to have a USB stick version of Lion. Not only is my internet access limited to 10 GB per month, I am a six hour drive from the nearest Apple Store.

In Lion if you want to restore the library folder so it's visible, type this command in terminal: chflags nohidden ~/Library/. It worked in the developer betas, so I'm guessing (still downloading Lion, BTW) in works in retail, too. In Lion it worked until Apple released an update, and then you had to type in it again, so you may want to copy that command into Textedit for safekeeping later on if it's messed up again.

Oh, yes. I've plugged in my mighty mouse to my laptop (just a few times to test things) and it works fine. You just won't be able to use the gestures.

People who liked memorizing all the arcane keyboard shortcuts like "control-alt-delete" will love memorizing all the arcane finger combinations. In Lion, are the finger alternatives displayed in the menus like the keyboard shortcuts, or do you have to look them up in a manual to use them?
If you like arcane commands, I know of a computer manufacture that makes a computer that uses "control-alt-delete" to access the "Start" menu in order to stop the computer. Years ago I left this companies products behind for Apple products because of their ease of use.

Back in the day, getting an OS X upgrade involved going to a store or ordering online and getting an optical disc. With the release of Lion, Mac users can get near-instant gratification.

It feels different from the get go...

I think you need to erase the "With the release of Lion, Mac users can get near-instant gratification." line. In reality this is not true, maybe for less than 1% of users that have access to high-bandwidths and that have not issues with the install or that have a newer model of computer, or that have Snow Leopard installed.

I believe that many users could go to a retail store but the CD, if it were available, go out for a nice dinner, come back install Lion, and it would be faster than waiting for their Lion update to be downloaded.
