VideoMonkey doesn't seem like it has seen many updates since it was taken over and renamed fro iSquint. Can't HandBrake perform the same and more and is regularly updated?

You work and work and still you get no respect :-)
I wrote Video Monkey and it IS NOT in any way a "rename" of iSquint or any other piece of software! It was inspired by Visual Hub, a great piece of software that is no longer supported. But it is a 100% Pure Cocoa, written from scratch, native Mac app.
Handbrake is a great app, but it doesn't deal with multiple files as well, is harder to us for simple repetitive tasks (IMHO) and doesn't deal with metadata. So I think VM has a place in the ecosystem.
As far as being rarely updated, I do the best I can. Upcoming features include: an advanced settings menu, simple DVD authoring (like Visual Hub), the ability to stitch together multiple videos into one and audio normalization.

I tried it out. I gave it four videos to encode, from four personal (non-commercial) DVDs. It failed on two of the videos -- gave up the encode and output truncated video files. I deleted it with AppZapper and am still looking for a good converter to go from DVD to iMovie formats.

I appreciate your efforts, and note that the version number is 0.10 - I assume it's early in development. I still use Visual Hub, and it really was the best. Good luck on updating and improving Video Monkey - I will try it out.

Never have a problem with Video Monkey. It rocks. I do use HandBrake as VM doesn't have the presets for the iPad, but do still use it when I need to. And lets not forget, its free. Chris has done a great job and I look forward to updates. Since Visualhub is gone, at least we now have something that is supported.
If its not working for you, look at what you are doing, maybe you don't have the correct libraries installed or your computer is overtaxed.
