I think that was a mistake......alot of people have a mini hooked up to there entertainment center including me and it sucks to see that disappear. I was hoping they would put it in the App Store, but so far nothing. There are open source solutions out there that do alot more, but are far too buggy for me. Front Row was simple, quick, and usually just worked to view movies and its more flexible than Apple TV. Hope to see it return I think it was a mistake taking it out.

when Apple was first putting together a list of legacy features to bring over to Lion and it was Front Row's turn, the discussion went “Whoa, that's still there? Anyone here using it? Anyone…? No?

Maybe Apple sneaked in a bug to disrupt FrontRow during one of their Snow Leopard system updates, just to see if anyone would notice--perhaps counting how many "notifications" were sent in by the software following a crash. Of course, nobody noticed. ;)

Oh, so it was Command-Escape that I would accidentally hit once and a while. I always found Front Row to be absolutely useless and hated when it unexpectedly took over the computer. Good riddance!

Once again I find myself in the vast minority.

I am traveling around the world and currently living in Argentina. My Internet connection is a shade faster than dial up, when it works at all. The cloud to me is not something I am looking forward to, much less trying to download Lion.

I own no television, just a US iTunes account and a 17" PowerBook with the all important remote control. I use FrontRow daily as my only media viewing source (with the exception of rented movies I have to start up annoyingly from iTunes).

Like the first poster I have found the other 3rd party options to be less than useful, especially since I can't overlook their shortfalls in lieu of their ability to stream. No streaming means I just want a simple solution, and for ages that has been FrontRow. Even if my Internet was fast enough I would have to spoof my IP address to access steaming content.

I had been hoping against hope that Apple would update their venerable app, but it seems it is not to be. I will be one of the few that miss FR should I live long enough to download Lion (it will take me days to download it, if it ever succeeds, it all depends on how well it picks up where it left off after it fails).
Life, like wine, is all about balance.

I admit, it's difficult to let go. BUT, I rarely used the darn thing! However, Irrationally holding onto legacy programs and computers is what makes some of us Mac freaks endearing, isn't it??

Try XBMC with Quartz skin. Absolutely perfect and way better than Front Row.

Meh.

Ever since I installed Plex, no need for Front Row. Plex gives me all the same capabilities with the ability to fine tune, plus the availability of plug-ins for other content providers.

Cheers!

Front Row is one of those apps which, if you use it, is very much appreciated for what it does, and for what it doesn't do. It's simple, elegant, and uncluttered. It's just so easy to sit down, grab the Apple remote, or an iPhone with the Remote app, activate Front Row, and turn the mini hooked up to the flat screen into a video jukebox. And you can keep all of the media files on a server on your home network, to display movies, music, and photos to any computer in the house.

I've had Lion installed since it as released publicly and I didn't know Front Row was gone until I read it here...

I use Front Row when teaching dance classes. When combined with the remote they used to ship with MacBook Pros, it is a great way to advance through songs, pause, play, and be able to see from a distance what is playing.
