katy,

that one I would not worry a whole lot.
when repairing permissions or using ADU for repair, you won't ever get a total clean repair.

personally, i find having an external that has a bootable partition ( or the whole thing) is best.
I also highly recommend Diskwarrior.... not free. it's 99 bucks US.

but as a bacon saver.. it's second to none.

don't care alot for Applejack.
I have Onyx... not bad, but nothing special.... just an app to run many utilities that you can run on your own.

free disk repairs get you what you pay for.

Diskwarrior, TechToolPro, Drive Genius..... all cost..... all good... diskwarrior is still my first choice.
my versions of each app are current thru Snow.

get your original install disc out and boot to the Hardware Test on it..
run extended... takes a while, but it's pretty decent going thru everything.
if it comes back clean, i put money on a 3rd party app giving you grief somewhere.

I ran AppleJack and Apple Hardware Test and they found no issues. I thought about buying DiskWarrior, but had had enough with trying to fix my poor iMac. Decided that $100 would be better spent at the repair place. Not sure now whether that was true...they say I need a new logic board, to the tune of $850! How is it that all those tests said I had no problems?

I can't even believe this is only a 2YO iMac. Never had an issue with a Mac before, in 20 years of working on them. Now I just have to decide whether to fix the old, or buy the new. Been reading bad things about the new ones as well.

I will start a new post with some more comments. Not a happy camper today!

posted in your other thread also.

but one thing i would ask....

what procedure/application did they use to determine it was the Mobo?

and I do hope they are Apple Certified Repair yes?

They said they thought it was going to be the video card, but tested it with another Mac and had the same issues. Not sure of the details any more than this. Yes, Apple Certified Repair. The real Apple Store is an hour and a half away, these guys are a bit closer.

Someone on another forum suggested I get a second opinion, but I'm not really sure I want to pay the $75 to get my Mac back and then truck it all the way to the Apple Store to pay them $75 to tell me the same thing.

Not sure what to do at this point.

i don't get upset... don't even worry about that.

I am still trying to figure what you meant when you said "clean my machine"... that's confusing because the only cleaning needed is done with a soft cloth.

free up space... that would be the same as not saving anything you don't need?

and you paid for this magic of deleting that which you could do all along?

Mackeeper is the faster way to go to clean up everything so you don't have to go & look through all the files in the iMac Computer, I don't save much in my iMac, I Put everything onto a Disc & website to save things, I Keep My iMac Computer Empty all the time, My desktop is always empty & I Have Wallpaper Wizard to choose Desktop Wallpapers & I Have Apple iTunes witch I Use to Download Apps & Music & Movies & Games & Music video's & Podcasts & I Have Apple Mac App Store to Download Applications, thats what I Have in My iMac computer, I Don't save Pictures or do any serious work on My iMac I Go on Apple iTunes & Apple Mac App Store & I Check for My E-Mail & browse the internet & use whatever App's & Stuff & Games I Bought on The Apple Mac App Store & thats it, I Don't do serious things with it, My iMac Computer runs very Fast & Smooth just like a got it out of the Box in July of 2009 & it never really gives me any serious trouble it's a great machine & I Hope you believe me

so you never answered my question.

you don't save anything locally.
you don't run anything considered a power application.
and from what you stated, 90% of what you do is either thru web browser or itunes.

yet you say MacKeeper is wonderful.
and what you just said negates about 99% of what you claim MacKeeper does for you.

so specifics please.. i really am curious why you hold so tight to MacKeeper.
what specifically does that application do for you that "enhances anything" in your Mac?
what in the world does it "clean"?

not looking for a fight or anything... i just would like the information.
so if you can give the specifics, i would appreciate it.

you ever had CleanMyMac? well it's the same thing as that or maybe you don't know what that is also? or think that i should really trash that to? & maybe I Will if I Learn more about these Applications when i understand that they mite not be good for My iMac Computer maybe? & maybe that is a Spam Ad Product to? however that works? but if it is? then how come these Products have been Featured in The Macworld & MacLife Magazines? & been on Ads on Apple Sites & been telling us all it's so very great & go Download it & a lot of people would believe that in the past cause they saw it on a The Macworld & MacLife Magazines & some Ads on Some of The Apple Websites, I Must say they really do know how to Convince people into everything & i'm sure that if you a Real Big Fan of Macworld & MacLife Magazine reader & Love reading there Magazines sometimes or all the time you would see there Ads in Magazines, I Have Read & Macworld & MacLife Magazine in the Past & I plan to Subscribe to them soon. Ok or these things used to be a Good Application until it decided to go Bad :( in that case then you Win & i'll Remove them from My iMac Computer ok, I Just need to know more info about these Applications so i'm sorry I Bothered you & I Did not mean to, Maybe Macworld & MacLife Magazine did have an article about MacKeeper & CleanMyMac & they said it was Bad & I Probably missed it cause I Did not Read every Month of Macworld & MacLife Magazines & I Missed The Part they are all Bad Applications now? Ok well Maybe Macworld & MacLife Magazine should come up with a Magazines telling Us all A List of Top Major Applications on The Internet that are Bad & Threatening to our Mac Computers & not to Download them, that would be a cool idea to do for a Suggestion?, or maybe they did it but I Missed out on that Magazine Issue :( ok i'm not Perfect & I Don't know everything, I Have to read more & look into more things & Subscribe to Macworld & MacLife Magazine when I Get the Money soon, i'm planning on doing it soon. I understand I Made a Mistake, i'm sorry :( it's ok though, I'm Handicapped I Have Cerebral Palsy but stay cool from Byron. :)

I read several reviews of MacKeeper online before purchasing earlier this week. All were positive. Now that I am having this problem, I am finding all the negative reviews!

I used it to do a Fast Cleanup, and also had it detect duplicate files and trashed quite a few of them. Everything seemed to be OK, until online today and the screen went completely white, couldn't see a thing. Restarted a few times until now it is only half white, ghosted back everything on the screen.

I contacted MacKeeper through Live Chat twice, and on the phone twice, but they claim it is not their software that is responsible, even though I told them I found similar complaints on apple.com/support. Apple phone support won't give me any free advice because I am out of warranty, but want me to bring to an Apple store. Closest one is 2 hours away, but there is an Apple supported computer repair center a bit closer.

Question is: Do you think this is the software, or just a coincidental hardware issue? I have already tried trashing the MacKeeper app and restarting, with no effect whatsoever.

Katy, how are you? I've installed Mackeeper and suddenly my computer turned off and it doesn't start anymore!!! The screen stops on the Apple Icon when I turn it on! I've tried installing Lion again but nothing happened........... I don't know what to do!!!!!
