They're great pictures, and kudos to the top 3 especially, but half of these aren't macro shots.

Oh I wish I had know about the contest, as I would have liked to enter too. Also these are all great by the way.

When I took this photo I was only concentrating on the bee. I never even took notice of the little Mites that were on the flower with it.

It's a hover fly, not a bee, and those 'mites' are aphids. Fwiw.

Nice shot of the BB exploding the grape. About 30 years ago I did an ad (which became a popular poster) for camera lens company Tokina. It was a very similar shot of a bullet piercing a raw egg. Of course, it took multiple attempts to get the shot we wanted, making quite a mess in the process!

Are you going to show the rest of the entries? There must have been more than 14.

Unfortunately there were just under 300 entries into the contest, which is far too many to put into a slideshow. So we chose the top 14 based on the number of votes the images received.

The winning picture shows a exposure of 1/2? Half a second on a frozen shot? How did they manage that?
I must agree with "bastion" in that a lot of these are not true macro shots. Nice closeups but not macro.

Really, you couldn't post them on Flickr or something? I realize that Macworld wouldn't get ad dollars from every impression that way, but it wouldn't cost you much in time or bandwidth, either. Come to think of it, a Macworld photo group on Flickr could be kind of interesting!

Good question. I added an explanation from the photographer.

Thanks, that's very helpful...and increases my appreciation for the skill of the photographer.

Ask and ye shall receive! We've set up a Macworld Macro Photography group at flickr.com/groups/1723533@N20. I will let all the contest participants know that they can join the group and share their photos, but because they retain all rights to their images we can't upload anything without permission. Everyone else can add their own macro shots as well.
