There are other options out there as well.

VLC, FFMpegX to mention two. (Come to think of it, isn't VLC partially based on the ffmpeg project?)

Most Video converters that you get for free on the Web has FFMpegX at the core.

Hmmm … I tend to find VLC a touch temperamental: I personally use MPEG Streamclip.

Another one to look at that I personally have used a lot is Videora. It's made for macs and iTunes but I've used it on Windows a lot as well. Check it out. The one down side to it is that you have to have an internet connection to use it, but, that's never bothered me.

If you convert a 256 AAC to a 256 MP3 is the "loss" that noticeable?

Many car stereos play MP3 discs but not AAC.

You're overlooking MPEG Streamclip, avidemux, VisualHub, and ffmpegx. x)

I miss mactheripper, any other substitutes?
ripping a DVD that i own and over-paid for from handbrake takes way too long.

No, you won't notice the difference, especially if you're listening in a car, which is a noisy environment.

I'm running Lion, but don't see any "Services" menu when I right-click on my AIFF audio file. Any idea what's up?
