I respectfully request that you put a USB 3.0 PCIe card (they are inexpensive) into one of your Mac Pros, and retest this drive.

USB 3.0 is brilliant. On my Mac with a USB 3.0 card connected to an external ASTONE dock I'm getting over 115MBps. What we really need is a Thunderbolt to USB3 adapter to take advantage of all these cheap fast drives.

Note that Amazon has a 1 TB version of the same drive for $90, similar physical dimensions

I just picked up a 1 TB model--pre-formatted for the Mac--at the Apple Store in Louisville for $119.
